The sound of silence.

I purchased this for my small home studio. I do not have the room treated and someone recommended I try a micscreen. I flirted with buying a more expensive t.bone one for ¤99 but in the end decided on this. I have a table mounted microphone boom and thought the metal one would be too heavy. To my dissapointment when it arrived the slot on the metal bracket was only 3/8"while the connection on the boom is 5/8". I am now left with the dilemma of having to find a reducer/extention piece to allow this application. I have for now used it on an ordinary stand. The isolation is amazing. Much better than I exoected. I will still need to have some treatment done to the room. But for now this will more than do. Good product, easy to use and set up with good isolation values.

Better than an untreated room

This is an interesting product. First of all, it's big. very big. On the other hand, it can be easily fitted to mic holder. It is made of light foam, so it prevent sound leakage from back and sides. However positioning the mic is a real challenge. The more U push it to back the more dominant 200 Hz buildup happens. Best position so far is to put slightly out from the Micscreen. It is suggested to put a light foam or pillow to the top as the mic catches the sound from top. But it definitaly gives better result compared to poorly treated room.

It works.

Unfortunately as I had little experience with studio recording, I didn't initially know how to screw this screen onto my microphone stand properly.

When I did, I almost forced my microphone cable due to the way my microphone needs to be orientated towards the speaker.

Thankfully I got some good advice from the Thomann support team and I'm grateful to them for that.

Still, after these initial struggles this microphone screen has served me rather well and it's been very useful to achieve clean vocal recording from my Shure SM57 with a proper windscreen attached.

Is it perfect? I suppose not.
But if you're in need of a simple, affordable solution this works out reasonably well.

Potentially an extremely useful tool

This screen is potentially very good, or useless depending on who you are, the room you are recording in, and what you hope to do.

In my case, I have a room with a bit of sound absorption on the walls, but not fully covered, no bass traps yet. It's still a fairly reflective environment. I found the screen helped significantly in reducing reflections in the recordings - especially when singing or shouting. Additionally, I think you can easily cover up either the top of bottom with a towel/cloth depending on how you have your mic and pop filter set up.

I reckon that there could be environments where this simply does not offer enough absorption.

I put the screen on a mic stand in the middle of my studio. The screen is quite bulky, but easily transportable if you have a car. It isn't heavy.

To conclude, this was a good solution for me that helps me get much better, albeit not perfect results. It is a significant improvement, though, and I am happy with my purchase. In my case, I think it was well worth the money.

Take time study how reflections and treating your room works. It is knowledge that will benefit you for the rest of your time with music and help you to make an informed purchase.
