I’ll give my objective thoughts first and then get to the big problem.
The price point, feature set and sound quality seems to be pretty well aligned. I recorded some acoustic guitar with one of the mics (not the stereo pair) and was happy with the results. It was for a dense rock track to create some movement for the choruses and the low cuts worked well for this. I ended up using the flat setting, cause the air felt like too much for what I was going for. The mics are very light, which is nice, but the switches do feel a bit cheap. I guess that is aligned with the price point.
Now the problem:
The first pair I received had a low volume crackle in the background of the mic. I contacted Thomann and they exchanged them for a new pair. New pair arrived and I tried them out… The same exact problem: One mic works, the other has the crackle. So naturally I’m very disappointed and will return the pair. I’m certain the problem is in the mics, because one of them works with the same exact signal chain. I tried it with multiple preamps and cables just to be sure.
So what are the odds of getting two pairs with the same problem? I feel like there is a QC problem at the manufacturer. I will buy something else.
