Loopers have experienced a surge in popularity in recent years, and the Yuer XS-04 Looper & Drum combines both a phrase looper and drum computer in a single compact pedal housing. Essentially, a looper is a specialised recording device that enables users to create their own accompaniment by stacking phrases, or "loops". Although designed as a stereo device, the Yuer XS-04 can also be used with pure mono signals – such as an electric guitar or an electric bass. The Yuer XS-04 Looper & Drum provides 100 different drum grooves to accompany layering sessions, together with a total memory time of 160 minutes. The loop sessions can be saved in 40 presets, with four minutes of recording capacity assigned to each memory slot. As many loops as required can be layered within any preset, regardless of the storage capacity.

40 songs in a single unit!

The Yuer XS-04 Looper & Drum can be used as a pure phrase looper, as a drum machine, or – most interestingly – as a combined looper and drum machine, offering extensive versatility. The modules can be synchronised by simply pressing the "Merge" button. An automatic counter and a small display complete with convenient circular progress indicator help to guide the user through the recording process, while two encoders in the form of rotary knobs allow the parameters and volume of the respective "loop" or "drum module" to be adjusted accordingly. The two foot switches are used to control the recording, overdub, and delete functions, with the left switch also allowing the desired playback tempo of the drum grooves to be "tapped in". The loop results can be backed up externally via a USB-C port and a "loop management" app on the user's computer – a method that can also be used to copy pre-prepared loops or playbacks to the pedal!

Allowing drummers to get creative

There is of course something more fun than practising with a metronome - playing with a band, of course! Featuring a drum module with 100 different drum grooves covering ten different musical styles, each with ten groove variations, the Yuer XS-04 Looper & Drum is a music partner that just keeps on giving. A metronome capable of delivering irregular 5/8, 7/8, 9/8, or 11/8 beats is also available for added creativity. The Yuer XS-04 features stereo inputs and outputs; a mono signal is connected to the left input channel in the usual way. Storage takes place digitally, with the signal converted at a sample rate of 44.1kHz and 24-bit dynamic resolution. At a high one megaohm, the input impedance of the Yuer XS-04 Looper & Drum allows even acoustic guitars with piezo pickups to be connected without any loss of sound. The Yuer XS-04 Looper & Drum requires a 9VDC/500mA power supply, which is not included in the scope of delivery.

Good but some issues, that make live use difficult

The thing that attracted me to this particular looper was the two button option, so I can stop loops with a single click, rather than the standard double click. Basically the pedal is OK although changing the volume or tempo on the fly especially on a dark stage is a problem, and my one big issue is once a loop is recorded and you want to start it on the beat, you cant simply hit the start button. It is a bit strange in that the loop will start when you release the button not when you depress it, and if you leave your foot on the start button for more than one second when you release the button nothing happens. So what I have to do when counting myself in is press the button on the “and” before the beat and release it on the first beat. This is not the case with the drum machine which start when you depress the button, the drum sounds are generally OK and the drum patterns are fine but busy and heavy sounding, it is also worth noting most of the drum patterns are 4 bars with fills which is less than ideal for live work. The pedal has potential with firmware updates if they fix the recorded loop start issue, and provide some 1 bar grooves that simply provide a beat to build your loops on, also being able to adjust the tempo of a recorded loop would be nice.

veel meer features dan mijn vorige looper (Boss RC1) en dat voor minder geld! Mooie afwerking 1 ster minder bij bediening omdat de 'undo/redo' functie wat eigenaardig in elkaar zit...

Documentation is pretty worthless never really explains how to upload tracks into the unit I need to go on the Internet find chats to solve this problem absolutely do not recommend this product.Power on is unstable

Un bon looper, très simple d'utilisation et plutôt joli esthétiquement. La partie boucles de batterie est franchement bien, les sons sont réalistes et il y a d'excellents rythmes plus quelques métronomes, ce qui peut toujours être utile. La boite contient évidemment la pédale, mais aussi un câble usb c, une notice en anglais et allemand, et quatre patins en caoutchouc à coller en dessous au besoin. On peut normalement utiliser un logiciel (pc) pour gérer les boucles, mais je n'ai pas pu le télécharger, l'adresse du site donnée sur la notice n'existant pas. Dommage.
Ce looper contient apparemment le même circuit que le Circle Looper de Donner, et, il me semble, le looper de chez Flamma.
