This replaced the original speaker in my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe that I bought in 1996. The speaker requires quite a different EQ setting than the original one did - I need to tame the highs and mids a bit so I mostly have them set at around 10 o'clock - but with that taken into consideration, I just love how the amp sounds now. Where the presence knob didn't have much impact with the old speaker, boosting it now really adds some nice crisp highs. The lows are powerful but not boomy and the mids clear.
The speaker is incredibly lightweight, which is always welcome although it didn't have a very big impact on the overall weight of the combo amp.
I was also looking at other speakers prior to ordering this rather new Jensen BB40, particularly Celestion Creamback (G12M-65), which is a British voiced speaker. It felt like one of those would have altered the American sound of the amp a bit too much, but not having tested them, I of course don't know how true that is. The BB40 seemed like a good choice with a sound that seemed to be right in between a typical British and American voiced speaker. Overall, I am very happy with my choice and although I've always loved the clean sound of this amp, I love it even more now. The only thing I don't love about it is the overdrive channels. I had some hope they would improve more than they did with the speaker change, but I use the clean channel the most anyway and use various overdrive and distortion pedals to alter the sound.
