I put this one into Marshall Valvestate 65r hybrid that has Celestion V-type speaker. I have tested now the original Marshall tube, JJ12ax7s and now this one. Original tube was old so I cannot say much about it, but EH tube was sounding much like the original. But of course it has more clarity, gain, harmonics and compression. For Marshal sound, this tube is perfect.
I use Boss ME-80 pedal so this is not the most sophisticated approach to sound, but for cheap compo as I have, I am very pleased to sound this tube offers for cleans and metal distortion.
This is not my firs EH preamp tube, and I have to say these are noisier than many other tube.
In the end I choosed JJ12ax7s. The reason is that is has darker sound, lesser gain and it feels like more focused on giving pure rock and blues sound. EH tube was more balanced and brigther. A good tube but the JJ offered me extremely detailed lower end with my setup. I will not throw my EH tube away, but right now I feel like JJ is the best for me.
For quality, eh tubes have been the worst. I bought two broken ones from local store. I wanted to try one that works so I ordered it from Thomann and yes, that one worked fine.
If you have original Valvestate 65r, and you like it?s sound, I recommend this tube for replacing the original tube.
