The revolution was a lie after all
Known as a boutique modder of high quality 3rd party audio interfaces, Black Lion Audio misses most of the marks with Revolution 2x2.
First time plugging the interface into my trusty Genelecs, the noise floor in my monitor speakers rises considerably and even when the monitor output knob has been maxed out, the outputs do not deliver the volume or the headroom a professional piece of equipment should.
The signal-to-noise ratio and output performance land on face-flat, even though the interface has been marketed with high standards.
The packaging and the chassis design are top notch, tempting even.
The pots in the face side are sturdy and mean with a good amount of stiffness - you are not going to dial your mic gains by accident.
Even the back plate with minimal connections communicate trust-worthiness and straightforward mentality.
But, no matter the fancy clock designs or decoupled AD-DA stages, there is no substitute for a clean audio path with a healthy amount of headroom.
I had high hopes for BLA delivering a good no-nonsense audio interface, but ended up very disappointed with the Revolution 2x2 and I sincerely hope they get it together for the next product.
