I purchased this Moeck Rottenburgh olivewood soprano/descant recorder because I've owned a Rottenburgh olivewood alto/treble for 25 years and a more beautiful tone you could not hope to find! I was interested to see if the soprano/descant recorder would have a similarly rich tone and it certainly does...
Moeck make top-quality recorders and the craftsmanship is evident. The Rottenburgh range is perfect for intermediate to advanced players, or those looking to invest in their first good quality wooden recorder.
I also have a Moeck Rottenburgh pearwood soprano/descant which has a lovely, bright tone - but the olivewood has a noticeably richer sound at the lower end of the range and handles the upper register beautifully. I used to be in a medieval trio but these days I play folk music in a band and I wanted a richer, more solid sound. I can thoroughly recommend it. It is a pleasure to play - responsive and warm.
All Moeck Rottenburgh recorders are excellent quality and the various different woods give different tones. The harder the wood, the more expensive. If you're looking for something rich, strong and warm it is worth spending a bit more on the olivewood. It is a beautiful instrument.
