Premetto che l’ho comprato facendo attenzione alla formula “soddisfatti o rimborsati”.
Appena arrivato, mi sono registrato sul sito, ho scaricato il rig manager (prima su telefono, poi su pc), e ho provato subito la chitarra col primo rig. Non ho mai sentito una qualità così alta, un equilibrio perfetto.
Riuscire ad equilibrare i suoni tra pedali, amplificatori e microfonazione (aspetto sottovalutato), è un’impresa quando suoni sempre in condizioni diverse… kemper raccoglie il meglio del meglio e lo restituisce con qualità costante. Niente più amplificatori pesanti da portare in giro, niente pedaliere giganti in sala prove, solo chitarra e kemperino.
Footswitch
Uno dei compromessi più discussi sul kemper player è la presenza di “soltanto” 3 footswitch. Fermo restando che può essere una questione di gusti… ma una macchina come il Kemper è fatta per preparare i suoni PRIMA e cambiare i rig dal vivo, stop. Penso che se hai bisogno di emulare una pedaliera analogica con una digitale a 10 footswitch, forse dovresti tornare all’analogico e lasciare perdere il digitale. La comodità di avere tutto a portata di mano, in un apparecchio così piccolo e facile da usare, non ha pari.
In ultimo vorrei togliere eventuali dubbi a chi legge e non sa se comprarlo:
- la qualità è la più alta che puoi trovare, anche rispetto all’analogico, perché kemper elimina tutte le variabili che ci “rovinano” il suono cambiando location (o anche solo spostando il microfono o mettendolo in un pre di bassa qualità, sempre se non va in diretta al mixer…)
- non profila: può usare il 90% dei profili esistenti, ma non può profilare
- il restante 10% riguarda suoni complessi con più pedali che canzoni da suonare
- non legge le performance
In definitiva: vuoi leggere performance e avere suoni con 2 phaser, 8 riverberi e 4 delay? Comprati la stage o rimani all’analogico.
Ti basta avere un suono di qualità pronto all’uso, personalizzabile e in un apparecchio quasi tascabile? Kemper player è il migliore, un altro pianeta rispetto a tutte le altre multieffetto.

I've been looking for a compact multifx that be easy to handle and sound good for a while. Kemper's youngest product, Profiler Player - does all you need to enjoy playing in a small box, no need to spend days learning the device, no complex controls. The Player product has a fully powered tone configuration on a desktop and mobile app, and for easy tweaks you can also use the controls on the multifx itself, which gives you a nice feel of toggles that you would find on a real amp.
Sound and emulation quality put it in one tier with industry leaders, so you can rely on it in any venues to play live. As a bonus, bluetooth play-along, "transpose" feature to avoid constant re-tuning (best pitch-shifter-like solution I ever used) and compact size make it a great solution for home practicing and jamming.

Angst vor der eigenen Courage?

Als langjähriger Kemper-Nutzer (Powered Toaster mit Remote) bin ich vor ca. 2 Jahren auf einen Quad Cortex umgestiegen, und zwar aus einem einzigen Grund: Der Form-Faktor. Auch wenn der Kemper deutlich weniger Schlepperei als das Marshall-Top vorher darstellte, der Quad Cortex war dann einfach noch einmal die Hälfte davon, der passt ja praktisch mit in den Gigbag. Soundmäßig gaben sich Kemper und Cortex nicht viel, beide oberste Liga.
Der Kemper Player ist nun bei der Größe eines Helix Stomp angelangt, freilich aber mit den für meinen Geschmack deutlich besseren Amp Models bzw. Profiles. Direkt out of the Box sind auch die besten Profile der einschlägigen Meister des Profiling-Fachs dabei (z.B. einige von Michael Britt, TAF, ...), die ich beim großen Kemper schon kennen und lieben gelernt habe.
Natürlich ist man im Vergleich zu den größeren Profilern hinsichtlich Funktionalität etwas eingeschränkt: mit hardwareseitig nur 3 Fuss-Schaltern und softwareseitig nur jeweils max. 2 Effekten vor und hinter dem Amp/Cab-Stack muss man sich etwas genauer überlegen, was man sich da wohin legt. Das ist aber dadurch, dass praktisch keine Verzögerung beim Umschalten der Presets vorhanden ist, selbst für ein Top-40 Programm kein Problem.
Es sei denn, und da kommt nun der kleine Pferdefuss, man benötigt z.B. einen Pitch-Shifter. Die Effektgruppe gibt es zwar, aber darin findet sich lediglich ein einzelner Effekt, nämlich ein Octaver. Dass dem Gerät für Höheres die Processing-Power fehlt, kann ich mir fast nicht vorstellen. Eher schon, dass Kemper hier etwas Angst vor der eigenen Courage hat, und Leute mit dieser Lücke bewusst in Richtung Kemper Stage führen will. Sehr Schade.
Trotzdem, overall ist der Kemper Player ein Top-Gerät, mit dem man die Sounds der Profi-Liga der Modeler bzw. Profiler nun für deutlich kleineres Geld bekommt. Das Konzept, die Bedienung am Gerät auf das Wesentlichste einzuschränken, und das eigentliche Soundbasteln dann über die Rig-Manager Software zu erledigen (PC, Mac, Android, IOS) ist meines Erachtens zukunftsweisend.
Ob ich meinen Cortex nun verkaufe muss ich mal sehen, ich könnte es mir aber durchaus vorstellen.
NACHTRAG 28.09.2024: Nun gibt es von Kemper paid upgrades und das LVL2 update hat alle Effekte der großen Kempers. Problem solved, wenn auch gegen erneuten Münzeinwurf.
