Nostalgia meets practicality
The Squier Classic Vibe Mustang bass is an Indonesian-made, authentic replica of Fender's Mustang Bass, which first appeared on the market in 1966 and was initially developed as a short-scale "student" bass in response to the increasing demand for electric basses from teenagers inspired by bands like the Beatles. The Mustang was the last bass designed by Leo Fender prior to the sale of the company to CBS, and its use by legends like Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones and Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads amply demonstrated that it was way more than just a "student" bass. The Mustang bass is currently enjoying a revival, and this model from Squier's Classic Vibe series gives players an affordable way to get their hands on one of these cult instruments.

A sound basis for beginners
As a short-scale bass, the Squier Classic Vibe Mustang bass has a scale length of 76cm (30"), significantly shorter than the 86.4cm (34") scale length found on long-scale basses. This means that the string tension is lower and the 20 frets are more narrowly spaced, which makes the Mustang bass much easier and more comfortable for people with small hands to play and, at the same time, gives it a very interesting sound with definite vintage character. The body is made from mahogany-like nato wood and the fingerboard from Indian laurel, which has similar properties to rosewood. The string-through-body bridge design slightly increases the string tension in relation to the scale length and gives more definition to the sound, while the Precision Bass-style split coil pickup delivers plenty of punch and eliminates unwanted noise.

About Squier
Fender is without doubt one of the most legendary guitar and amplifier manufacturers of all time. The company was founded in 1946 by its namesake Leo Fender († 1991), whose innovative ideas brought a breath of fresh air into the musical world. The gentle touch
Short-scale basses tend to have less sustain than their long-scale cousins, i.e. the notes do not ring out for as long, and this gives them a more percussive sound that has an appeal all its own.
