I was planning to buy something cheaper like Adam T5V, but decided to go with this more expensive system that is advertised specifically for home studio.
The overall sound of the system is very good (although, I would be surprised to have bad sound for such an expensive system). I can definitely say that I hear here and there some details in the music that I did not notice before. So, overall I am satisfied.
However, there some some really weird bugs that are really annoying and some of them are completely cannot be justified to pass quality assurance. I should says that I bought the system only several days ago and so far used it only with the provided USB cable directly to a Macbook laptop.
- There is an extremely annoying bug that the volume is not controlled by the volume in macOS when listening to music in a browser (YouTube, for example). Although the volume in macOS is set to the minimal value, the sound is extremely loud. However, if the volume in macOS is set to zero, the IN-UNF mutes.
- Therefore, I have to use a volume control in YouTube itself, which is very tiresome. Moreover, even when I set it to the minimal value, the overall loudness is still too high, which is really uncomfortable as I live in one of these shitty houses with bad acoustic insulation.
- Changing a browser does not help, so this problem exists even in the default macOS browser, Safari
- Moreover, the volume knob does not affect anything in this case.
- When using Music (former iTunes) app, the volume control from the knob or from macOS works.
- When the volume knob works, there is a clear bug that in the neighborhood of zero, the sound disappears completely abruptly, so the minimal volume is actually louder than it should be.
- The depth of the bass unit is about 13 cm, which is a lot. I was planning to put it horizontally and put a computer monitor above, however, it makes the monitor unpleasantly high for me (I am short, 162 cm).
- Because of that I have to put the bass unit vertically behind the monitor. However, it seems that Kali Audio does not know that people can use nowadays 27-inches monitors - their suggested locations for satellites with respect to the bass unit cannot be satisfied with such a monitor.
- Therefore, if you plan to use this system, be prepared that it puts some ergonomic issues (I cannot use my monitor with the monitor arm anymore with the comfortable height) and suggested locations for the speakers are difficult to satisfy. Moreover, Kali Audio did not test the system on macOS, which is kinda weird.
Overall, the sound quality is high, but these annoying issues make me regret slightly that I spend so much money on this system.
