Höfner HCT-VTH-BK Verythin Contem.

J'ai eu cette pelle pendant quelques années (les premières séries avec les repères "dot"). Quelques défauts de finitions sur les bindings mais rien de bien méchant, plutôt agréable à jouer, mais pas très réactive, et les micros d'origine sont vraiment médiocres. J'avais une paire de 490/498 qui trainaient, je les ai monté dessus (une horreur vue la finesse de la caisse), et bon, ok c'est un poil mieux (c'est dire à quel point les micros d'origine sont médiocres parce que les 490/498 ne sont pas exactement des merveilles non plus) mais du coup on sent mieux les limites de la lutherie... Bref, j'ai revendu le tout.

I was looking for an affordable semi-hollow guitar and Hofner HCT-VTH Verythin attracted my attention. While most similar guitars are more or less copies of the 335, Hofner offers something a little bit more unique, most notably a very thin body (hence the name "Verythin"). I really liked the visual styling, especially the headstock inlays, and the demos sounded quite good, too. In reality, however, things were quite different.
As soon as I opened the box, I noticed a lot of minor cosmetic imperfections. I completely understand that it's perfectly reasonable for an inexpensive instrument to have some flaws but this guitar had too many of them to ignore: uneven binding on the body and neck, questionably fit nut, blemishes in the finish. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the neck pickup isn't parallel to the strings. As soon as I removed the pickup, I realized that the cavity is improperly cut and there is not enough space for the pickup to sit at a proper angle.
Despite the negative first impression, I decided to plug the guitar in. As soon as I started playing, I realized that the action was very high and some of the frets were buzzing. After a few adjustments, the guitar was finally playable and I immediately noticed how resonant it was (Probably because of the thinner laminate used to make the body.). As you would expect, the tone was reminiscent of the 335 but had a little bit more brightness to it, especially on the bridge pickup. I really liked that the nut was quite wide making it very easy to play complicated chords without accidentally touching other strings.
I don't know whether Hofner has a terrible quality control or I was just unlucky. Either way, this is unacceptable. I really wanted to like this guitar but it just felt like a cheap toy. I wouldn't recommend buying this guitar without trying it personally.

Ich war seit einiger Zeit auf der Suche nach einer günstigen (aber nicht billigen) ES-335 Kopie vor allem für den Bereich Blues und Blues-Rock. Bei einem befreundeten Gitarristen bin ich auf die Höfner aufmerksam geworden und war sofort begeistert.

Nach einigen Test-Session seiner Gitarre habe ich mir eine eigene bestellt und die Begeisterung ist nicht vergangen.

Verarbeitung:
Die Höfner HCT-VTH ist sehr gut verarbeitet. An einigen Stellen an den Innenkanten der F-Löcher sind leichte Unsauberkeiten in der Lackierung festzustellen, aber das geht für den Preis voll in Ordnung. Die Abrichtung der Bünde ist nach meinem Geschmack hervorragend, ebenso die Einstellung der Gitarre.

Spielbarkeit:
Die Höfner spielt sich super. Das Halsprofil ähnelt dem meiner Les Paul. Durch den leichten Korpus hat sie am Gurt eine deutliche Kopflastigkeit, insbesondere bei der Verwendung von Nylon-Gurten. Beim Spielen fällt das aber kaum auf. Insgesamt ist diese Gitarre erstaunlich leicht.

Sound:
Der Sound ist hervorragend: sehr dynamisch mit einem beeindruckenden Sustain. Die Volume- und Tone-Potis reagieren mir ein wenig zu linear, so dass man insbesondere bei den Volume-Potis mit Vorsicht drehen sollte; aber man gewöhnt sich schnell daran.

Fazit:
Super Gitarre! Uneingeschränkte Empfehlung, für alle die so ein Modell suchen. Schlägt meiner Meinung nach die Konkurrenz von Epiphone und Ibanez in dieser Preislage um Längen.
