Fantastic! The snare drum really sounds like another instrument! It continues to sound big, but with a fat, low-pitch, old-fashioned sound, just as advertised! Besides, it kills the undesirable harmonics and allow to play with two slightly different sounds: inside the hole and outside on the topper. The best of all is that it does not affect bouncing, which remains the same within the hole. Besides, the hole allows one to play with the brush, because the rough surface of the drum skin is still available at the centre. Finally, it just looks great. It is sturdy and heavy, so that it sits well on the drum and it looks like it can resist a lot of beating. I have also tested the model without the hole, called the "Original", but this one with the hole is way better. The "Original" is all smooth and glossy, so that one cannot play with the brush, and without having a hole it kills bouncing. Thus, the Big Fat Snare Drum Steve's Donut 14" is for me the perfect choice. Great invention!
Btw, it sounds also great on the big toms!
