Fostex TH909

To start, the 909s are AMPs picky, so picky some of your best amps will not pair well with them while your lower cost amps will make them sing, this is all due to the low impedance that they have. If they are not paired well, you'll find the highs shrill and feel like daggers through your ears and the bass will sound flabby and out of control. However, find the right amp and sit back. Clarity, low end, transients and layering are all TOTL level.

These are amazing with the subwoofer like bass that digs deep, resonates and has a slow decay. It never affected the mids which were wonderfully clear along with non sibilant highs, however, the sound stage might not be as big as the Senns 800s, but it's wider than similarly priced headphones and has a 3D extention in all directions.

Overall, they're very very recommended. Plug them into everything you have, I found that they worked best with the Chord Hugo TT2, iFi Micro Black Label, PS5 controller (yes and they sound amazingly good!) and the creative soundblaster X 6! Happy listening!

Der Fostex TH 909 ist ein fantastischer, halboffener High-End-Kopfhörer! Er wird als offen angeboten, aber ganz offen ist er nicht. Er sieht super aus und es ist eine Freude ihn anzusehen und ihn in der Hand zu halten. Aber dafür allein ist er natürlich viel zu schade, denn er gehört nun mal auf den Kopf, wo man ihn leider nicht mehr sehen kann, außer wenn man sich vor einen Spiegel setzt. Aber wer tut das schon? Doch auch auf dem Kopf gesetzt wird die Freude nicht ein bisschen getrübt, weil der Sitz super bequem ist, auch nach langem Tragen.
Das wichtigste ist natürlich der Sound. Nur 1 Wort zunächst: Unglaublich!! Zuerst fallen die Tiefen auf. Nur einmal habe ich solche fantastischen, tiefen, druckvollen, fast fühlbaren Bässe gehört, das war bei der DENON AH-9200 (geschlossen). Aber der TH 909 ist genau so gewaltig! Die Mitten und die anschließenden extrem feinen Höhen sind sagenhaft! Es findet einen langsamer aber stetig sinkender Frequenzgang von den Bässen statt bis ca 2 Khz, danach werden die Höhen wieder sanft etwas angehoben bis etwas 6 Khz, dann ein Dip um 8 Khz, bei 10 Khz wieder eine zarte Anhebung. Das Resultat ist eine unglaublich ausgeglichene Musikwiedergabe, die die meisten Hörer voll befriedigen wird. Ich persönlich wünsche mir bei einigen Aufnahmen noch eine leichte Anhebung von ca. 2-3 dB ab 1,5 Khz gerade aus bis 20 Khz, also über die ganze Strecke bis oben. Dann werden Stimmen noch strahlender. Es ist unglaublich schön!!! Vergleiche habe ich mit folgenden Hörern durchgeführt: AKG K 812, Beyerdynamic T1 (1. Gen.), Ultrasone Edition 15 und Sennheiser HD 800 S. Der Fostex TH 909 ist im Ganzen unübertroffen.
Darum: er ist jeden Euro wert: KAUFEN !!!

Good headphones, but the problem is this: many TH-900 owners have been waiting for an openback version of them. Now Fostex claims it's here but it just isn't. Just like TH-900 are not really closed the TH-909 are not really open. They leak about as much sound and you definately won't get increased soundstage with TH-909. For me it was a big disappointment, but don't get me wrong: they are one of the best headphones out there. If TH-900 and TH-909 were the same price I would still choose TH-900.
