HOFA Basstrap 104 Anthrazit

This bass trap works quite well in my small listening room, helping to reduce the bass resonances which have a big negative effect on the overall sound. However, quite by chance, at the same time as buying this I also bought 8 pieces of thick acoustic foam (t.akustik PA-S80) which actually works better at the same job! I've ended up keeping both and using one in each corner, because the combination does just what I needed. The main benefit of the ready made bass trap over the loose foam is that it's quite attractive compared with 8 pieces of foam which either sit there looking ugly or will need to be covered or built into something. The Hofa is considerably bigger than the wodge of foam though. Much bigger than I expected, even after I checked the dimensions (obviously not very thoroughly). But it's extremely light and therefore easy to move around to find the best position. It's a lot more expensive than the loose foam (€190 vs. €70) but you're paying for a piece of furniture, not just a wodge of material.

I bought a pair of these, and one arrived slightly crumpled at one end. It's just an aesthetic issue - they still both hold my 18kg speakers just fine. They're much sturdier than the Jaspers speaker stands I initially bought (with the obvious drawback of fixed height).

Acoustically they made no measurable difference whatsoever in my room (even placed in the corners), but I do think that's down to my room being a nasty shape with a vaulted ceiling. I'd probably need to install another 6 or so before I got any serious results, and I don't have the budget for that. At this point I'm just happy with speaker stands I can trust, which won't resonate at all.
