So I bought thids Hurcules Stand. It is very compact so easy to bring to gigs, the mechanism for adjusting the stand height is excellent and very easy to do with one hand. The stand legs are not very long/wide so it doesn't take up much space, yet is still very sturdy. An excellent guitar stand for any guitar

I just wanted a stand for my bass that doesn't rely on the body just sitting in a cradle. I got this because it locks around the neck. I didn't realise how awesome the automatic locking mechanism actually is. You just set the instrument down onto the clamp and it clicks down around it, the body of the bass rests against the foam padded front legs of the stand. To grab your instrument you just pick it back up and it automatically releases. It's actually my favourite method now by far.
