i used to use Rotosound bass strings all the time years ago. Like a lot of people I try new strings here and there. Recently I tried a set of these again after many years on one of my jazz basses. Comparing these to Ernie Ball Extra Slinky bass strings which were on that bass in the same gauge I find the Rotosound bass strings a bit more articulate and the "E" string a bit stronger than the Extra Slinkys. They also cut through the band mix a bit better and the tone is a bit more rock if you will. .The feel of the Rotosound's seem a bit rougher to the touch to my feel. Overall I like these a bit better than the Extra Slinkys and feel the difference is worth a bit more for the Rotosound strings. They last about the same as the Extra Slinky's but when these loose that new string ring they don't go as dead as the Extra Slinkys. These last about three weeks of hard playing even with wiping down the strings. Of course I like the fresh string sound so I may be changing my string more than others feel necessary.

Roto quality!

These are always my first choice of strings. If I can't find Rotosound, I buy DR Hi-Beams. But Rotosound gives a feeling like warmer and more suitable for both my picking and slapping technique.

Great strings
Anonymous 16.02.2016
Rotosounds are my favorite strings.
I am a full time musician. This means that I practice several hours a day and often have live performances. I'm primarily a slap player and even so, Rotos rarely brake (I've broken only two first strings after two months of abuse on my practice bass for over six years of using them. They have nice mids and clear lows which makes them great for a more lead style of approach to the instrument. I find their price good. The tone and quality are consistent among different sets.
The only "drawback" I could think of is their distinctive sound. It just doesn't suit everyone's taste.

rotosound swing bass

I have loved the brightness of the rotosound swing bass strings since the 70's. have tried others but always come back to them. they hold their tonal quality for many sessions, and my sound would be totally lost without them.
