Phil Jones Bass Amp Head BP-800

Phil Jones has always been a manufacturer with his own unique ideas and designs. He remains true to this with his new BP-800. Straightforward, powerful and handy – where else can you get an honest 800 watts in a case the size of a pack of printer paper? Here you’ll find the typical 5-band tone control, two inputs and one output. As a bonus: there’s no plastic, both the case and the controls are made of light metal. This is what elegant understatement looks like!

Markbass Little Mark Vintage

The modern era of bass amplifiers began with Markbass, because the Italians were one of the first to use neodymium speakers and digital power amplifiers. They created unique looking and, above all, unique sounding devices. An amp called “vintage” shouldn’t sound modern, however, it should be clear. Markbass amps focus on warm, defined sounds. Here it is especially the limiter that can give the sound a slightly aggressive note if required. But also the 4-band tone control and especially the preamp tube support this sound. With an output of 500 watts, you are also ready for larger stages.

EBS Reidmar 502

The Swedish manufacturer EBS is especially known for its excellent bass effects, but has always built amplifiers as well. The Reidmar 502 delivers 500 watts of power and, unlike most competitors, delivers it at 2 ohms! It can operate four 8-ohm speakers! The 4-band tone control with semi-parametric mids and the built-in compressor (an EBS specialty!) give you perfect control over the sound. Effect loop and DI output via XLR complete this professional beast. It’s super lightweight, and so is its price.

Darkglass Alpha·Omega 900 Bass Head

In Finland there is not only vodka and tango, but also highly innovative manufacturers such as Darkglass. Although they specialise in bass distortion, they have combined this with a power amp and EQ control and tweaked it to create a special class of bass amplification. There are two different distortion circuits, a 6-band EQ, a compressor and a speaker simulator with impulse responses. Together with the 900 Watt power amplifier you have a power package built in Finland, for which the listed price seems almost ridiculous.

tc electronic BAM200

Last but not least… although definitely the smallest: the tc electronic BAM200! This super compact amp is merely the size of an effect pedal but don’t be fooled: it effortlessly pushes 200 Watts of nice tone! Keeping it simple with a classic 3-band EQ, master volume and gain, it also features a headphones and direct out, making it the ultimate gigbag partner for your bass in any given situation!
