I bought the Thoman CTC-50 in order to have a tuner with which I could tune my instruments even in a loud and noisy environments. At first I was happy with my purchase, noting that it would tune everything from guitars and ukuleles to double bass perfectly, and the back lit screen made it easy to tune no matter how dark or bright it was around me. The design is beautiful, and instead of sticking out like a sore thumb when placed on the headstock, it blends in making you forget that it's even there.
The tuning can be adjusted with a simple button press in order to handle alternative tunings, which is sometimes a problem for orchestras. While this was in no way not very useful for me, nor a very uncommon function, I greatly appreciated that I had the possibility to do so.
After a few months though, it suddenly stopped working well. It didn't always detect the vibrations any more, and the screen changed brightness rapidly. I tried changing the battery, but to no avail. The tuner is far to fragile for me to bring it on the very taxing tours which I go through in my profession, but for home use, or to tune your instruments for a few months while you save up for a sturdier tuner, it's pretty good.
