Summary: It's a fun little instrument, it's rather cheap, has unlimited potential, and it's sturdy. I highly recommend it.

I bought this fun little thing because I play a lot of percussion slapping guitar, and was tired of the rather dull sound produced by hitting the wood with my fingers.
The texture is nice, and the colour makes it blend into the guitar's pick guard nicely. It comes with extra application material in case the original gets too old or dirty. It also comes with a surprisingly strong magnet. By moving the magnet around on the Samjam, you can get a wide variety of sounds.
Now there are some things to note. This instrument does not do much noise on its own, but instead gets its amplification through the guitar body. This means that when not playing unplugged, you might, depending on the microphone set up, have certain issues with getting the right amount of sound from the Samjam. And, of course, you will not get any sound at all from a regular electric guitar. Neither of these are deal breakers, and in fact didn't pose any restrictions on me as an acoustic guitar player who rarely play big events, but it's worth noticing.
I found it to be nice as a percussion set on my guitar, and, if used together with a stomp box, allows you to get rid of your annoying drummer as well!
There aren't really any downsides to the product. It does what it has promised. it's customizable. It allows for unlimited forms of playing. Do you want it by your pick guard to slap it for a hard slap? You can do that. Do you want to gently tap it with your fingers while strumming with your thumb? You can do that. Do you want it placed on the thick string side of the guitar and slap it with your thumb? you can do that. Do you want it on a cajon that lacks a snare in order to get a nicer sound. I haven't tried, but you most likely can.
Lastly, it is very sturdy. My Samjam was in a severe accident a week after I got it, and upon examining it, I couldn't even see a scratch, even though the guitar it was on had to go for repairs.
The only downside is that it might be a bit tricky when trying to get the sound out live on stage, but some tweaking with the microphone or the installment of a piezo should easily fix it.
