Bought to replace on my Ovation Elite. As is common my original one the volume pot started producing less to no output.
It’s fair to say these pre-amps work excellently. I use the pre shape with the eq set flat and always marvel at the unique clarity and separated projection across the strings. I get that the roundback guitars were designed concurrently with these electronics over the years. Still, they sound fab and is a necessary purchase if your pre amp has failed.
The tuner works fine and the gain is powerful, ample and clean.
The bad point, I worry at the longevity of these products. The plastic feels not even close to the sturdiness/hardness of the older Ovation variants like the OP24 and FET 3 pre amps. Which makes me question the quality of the electronics themselves . To highlight, I have 2 other vintage Ovations with the older pre amps with ‘original’ pre amps still working as intended, we are talking about guitars 30 to 40 years old. So this is the only negative I feel must be at least considered. The Op pro studio pre amp of the higher model guitars may be different?
In conclusion, you won’t be dissatisfied with sound and original fit. We all keep our fingers crossed as to the life span, whilst enjoying the Ovation rasp and bell like tone.
Hope this helps.
