I have a kit that has great shells and edges but awful hardware, and im a heavy hitter and like my toms tuned quite high. so there always detuning during gigs and practices. and its a nightmare having to quickly tune in-between songs. so i tried different hoops but nothing worked so i thought id give them a go and they do the job perfectly. never need to worry again. i do wish they would do them in bigger packs however.
I have a ludwig supralite and I play rimshots almost always. It was getting so detuned that i even lost a tension rod during a concert. Tried these small guys and it was the first time in a while that i finished a whole set without having to adjust the tuning. Very satisfied.
There are many ways to prevent the screws from moving on your snare, but I found these Gibraltar Lug Locks the simple and impactless system for doing it: just put it on the tension rods and place the flat corner against the hoop and you are ready to go.
They do work well especially for rimshots when the rods close to the impact area could unscrew.
These are slightly easier to install than similar products from different manufacturers, but sometimes they don't stick to certain screws. However, they do slow down the detuning process and the simplicity of application and the small size make them interesting enough to try out.
Some of them came off the lugs right away, because they were slightly too big to fit, while others worked out fine. I don't know, they're cheap and can do the job if you're lucky, but I personally want more consistency.
I'm afraid that these little things were too small, they didn't fit my lugs well to be honest and the only way I could get them to work in any way was by jamming one in the rim and locking the one on the lug in the hole of the other. Not good at all for Gibraltar who are generally very good.
A great way to keep your snare drum in tune during a gig. It also helps the head stay tight for light intricate work on the drum.
A handy little accessory for any drummer out there.
These are not universal, in some cases they will not lock at the rim, because they are just too short. Gibraltar should introduce app. 2mm longer lug locks as well.
