Amazing wavemorphing device
The immediate impression when unboxing this thing was it is sturdy and really well built! And the sound engine is really impressive.
First I was concerned that it would be very difficult to learn using the semi-modular synthesizer, since I had no prior experience in modulars. But to my surprise, the interface is extremely well thought through, and even the most advanced details are located on natural places.
Downsides: First, there's some menus to learn, but it's just a small threshold. I'm however more bothered by the poor sound manager in the computer - it could have been more advanced, and does not at all match the ingenious design of the hardware. Also, when the power is turned off, it does not remember what patch I had up and running, and there is no "live memory". And also a bit annoying is that if you accidentally hit the big knob and switch patch, your custom patch is forever gone.
Upsides: EVERYTHING ELSE!
It still grows on me every day. I now also have the ASM Hydrasynth Keyboard, and realized that both have true value in my set up.
To be honest, I got the keyboard version since I didn't have a polyphonic MPE keyboard to operate the Desktop version. HOWEVER, once I had both, I could not send the desktop back. It's a very well designed machine, built as a tank. And the sound engine is amazing, with the modules available with the press of a fingertip, it's a budget friendly alternative to setting up a wall of modules. As long as I can accept that it's a digital synth, it's just perfect ;)
