Excellent microphone
Not having a lot of experience with microphones beyond those included in other equipment (such as those built into handheld recording devices), I was struggling to choose a good vocal mic. Based on recommendations from a singing friend (she's a singer - she didn't sing the advice) I started looking at the Shure range, and the SM58 in particular.
I didn't want to have to worry about phantom power, so the SM58 was a good choice, being a dynamic mic, and its cardioid directional pattern means it is less sensitive to background noise and feedback. Lots of singers choose these mics so who was I to argue. There are two versions - one has a switch to disable the mic - this is the one I went for.
When it arrived, it took less than a minute to hook it up to my amp and get it working - it sounds great and I'm very pleased with the purchase. Price was good, too!

Get the one without the switch
We have locked our switches in the on position (there is a plate you can unscrew and rotate to hold the switch on). When we bought them, we thought that it would be good to have switches, but they just got accidentally turned off and we never once turned them off purposefully!
Sound wise, and feature wise, the SM58 is something you can't go wrong with. There is nothing more to say really. Really good mic for a good price. There are other mics, better & worse, but these are hard to go wrong with. :D
They also last a long long time. Ours practically look brand new despite being 3 years old!
FYI In truth a singer should try out all they can before choosing as every voice suits something different, but it is not always practical or possible to do tests like that. So the SM58 is generally the mic people buy. And I don't think there is anything wrong with that :D

SM58
What can I say about this? It's an SM58. So you know straight away that it is going to be as good as it can be. After messing around with cheaper mics in the past I decided to splash out and get one of these once and for all. It performs exactly as I knew it would and will continue to for years to come.

just perfect
After several cheaper mic's have failed in recent years I decided to invest in a Share SM58S. Why didn't I do this YEARS ago? The mic is just superb - rugged, with a great balance and feel, and the sound through my Behringer mixer is just spot on. Thanks Thomann!!

Just buy this mic.
I own 7 of these, could not recommend it enough, never even considered another vocal mic. I also have used sm58's for mic'ing Brass, snare, hi-hats & guitar amps. Virtually indestructible, can be dropped, kicked,have drinks spilled on it and it will not let you down! Just buy this mic!
