I'll start by saying that the latch is a pressure-type one. AKA, a hard type of rubber/ plastic that holds the thing in place ( for vertical movement ).
As you would expect from the above, the thing slides down with even a modest weight. My son is barely 7 ( and at around 28kg ) and the throne keeps sliding back every time he uses it.
Handling looks alright in the pictures but in reality, due to the hard nature of the rubber, you really need to tighten the thing and the provided system does not do an adequate job of it.
Stability wise, it's a basic tripod, it's stable enough. If only it would keep its height.
Construction looks and feels cheap but not horrid. If the locking system would have been different it would have sufficed.
