A
great pickup
The pickup sounds thick and raunchy, somehow like a P90. It has a organic lively raw edge to it and can go very heavy.
The bad news is that the SDS is rather noisy, even more than a normal strat coil. I personally think the results are worth it, but keep in mind if you want a quiet pickup, this isn't it. This pickup surprised me, I like it alot... also, its quite cheap compared to the alternatives.

Nice warm sounding Pickup
I bought this pickup to replace an original Super distorsion bought in 1984 to mount in the bridge position of a japanese strat copy.
Having replaced with Duncans the central and brige PU last year the old DiMarzio had a much lower output so I decided to replace it with this modern version.
I am very happy of my decision, the SDS-1 has a much higher output level than the older, and match the duncans set.
The sound is not the typical jangly and metallic one of the strat bridge position, but much more warm and with less high, seems more almost a P90 sound to me.
Sure sound better distorted than clean, reminds me of the '80 and '90 british hard rock tones.
Not the right choice if you look for that 50s or 60s "surf" tone but an excellent warm sounding PU for a more modern and heavy sound.

Best replacement pickup for Musicmaster Bass Guitar
Title says it all. Really beefed up the sound of my Musicmaster Bass. Also very budget-priced. Sounds more like a humbucker, but still very single "coilish". Best bang for the buck.
