This is for tubescreamer addicts ! You can dial in various tube screamer based sounds with less bass, more treble, or more bass, less mids etc. But it remains a tubescreamer; It's not like a very flexible overdrive pedal that gives different tastes of overdrive, only the tubescreamer taste in different forms. And it does that very well. Other reviews gave me the impression you could make really different OD sounds.
I love to make a less bass, more trebly chimey sound with it that isn't possible with the original one.
You could use an EQ pre or post a 'real' tubescreamer, but the 805 is easie and faster. It was also when I tried quickly with an eq-pedal before a tubescreamer.
I think you still need an original tubesreamer or copy of it too, because that single tone knob is something different to dial in comparing to the three EQ knobs. And it is most definitely not restricted to blues as some reviews say. Tubescreamer can be used for lots of stuff and certainly for chimey shoegaze, with reverb or delay, chorus. It is one of the best pedals ever.
Conclusion ; Meant for Tubescream-lovers who want to go a step beyond, on an easy way, without eq-pedals. Very good sound. Maybe the Wampler Clarksdale is interesting too, it has an extra clipping mode. But I don't know if his tubescreamer sound will have this same quality.
