Miditech Midiface 16x16

As usual, Miditech provides a solid product that does exactly what it says on the box, no questions asked. This solved all my midi issues, caused by having way to much stuff. Since it's a midi interface, and not a midi router, it requires me to have the computer started to play my rack synths, but the alternatives are more expensive, *and* has less ports.

One nitpick: The channels are numbered left to right on the front, as expected, but the actual outputs and inputs on the back go from right to left, as seen from the front. This means that the midicable position and the lights on the front do not match up. Which sometimes is confusing.

Also, this unit is an unusual 1.5 units high, so if you are planning to put it into a rack you might want to buy a 1/2U blank panel to avoid having an unsightly half unit hole in your rack.

When a zombie apocalypse strikes, this midi interface could save your life. Casing build like a tank.
Insides... I am not sure. Something moves and rattles inside my unit when I move it or shake it a little. Despite this, the device works properly in the rack, so far. I don't want to open it (don't want to void the warranty), so I don't know what was flying around inside.

If you have a lot of hardware synth this interface does everything you need, even if you transmit on 256 midi channels at once. It sends and receives signals without errors (including sysex) even with a very long midi cables. Clearly a quality engineering.

It hides all the 16 ins and 16 outs at the back.

Works out of the box with Windows, MacOS and Linux (I checked).

This interface is probable your best choice if you are looking for a professional, versatile USB midi interface with lots of inputs and outputs for a computer running OS of your choice, and want to keep all that midi cables out of sight.

Das miditech 16x16 hat sich mit Windows sofort gut verstanden und wurde von Windows 10 anstandslos erkannt. Das ging so schnell, dass ich schon dachte es gibt’s doch gar nicht! Da der Windows Standard Treiber nicht multiclient fähig ist, kann man nicht seine DAW und einen Editorprogramm gleichzeitig betreiben, was ärgerlich ist! Es gibt eine etwas komplizierte Lösung im Netz, aber dass der Hersteller hier nichts tut ist mehr als traurig. Auch der Anschluß eines weiteren 16x16 ist unmöglich, denn die Geräte ID ist die gleiche und so ist es immerhin noch möglich mehrere Geräte unterschiedlicher Hersteller zu verwenden. So habe ich noch ein 4x4 miditech und von der Raydat 2 weitere midiports auf die ich zugreifen kann. Das sollte uns Liebhabern von echter Hardware auf unserem Feldzug gegen die Übermacht von Vst Plugins und total recall ein wichtiger Helfer sein, auch wenn es hier wie immer technisch gesehen die Hürden bis zur erträumten Perfektion hoch bleiben, wird man mit dem wahren Sound alter Hardware belohnt. Hoch lebe die Musik und echte Hardware aus den 80ties und 90ties. Das Midiface 16x16 ist eine strategisch wichtige Waffe im Einsatz gegen zu moderne Hardware. Wir geben niemals auf. Im übrigen nehme ich jeden Hardware synth als Audio Spur auf und mische dann in cubase. Das hat sich am besten bewährt. Früher mit Bandmaschine und heute mit DAW.
