Rockboard RPA 100 Power Attenuator

Vorweg; Bestellung und Abwicklung über Thomann wie immer top - hatte noch nie Probleme.

Zum Produkt:
Ich habe mir den RPA 100 aus 2 Gründen gekauft. Ich habe diverse alte Boxen von denen ich z.T. nicht weiß, wieviel Ohm sie haben (ohne sie aufzuschrauben und mir die Lautsprecher und Verkabelung anschzuschauen). Dementsprechend schließe ich sie nicht an meinen Röhrenverstärker an. Mit dem Rockboard RPA 100 dazwischen kann gem. Herstellerangaben jede Box - also unabhängig der Ohmzahl der Box - an einen Röhrenverstärker angeschlossen werden. Der Verstärker muss natürlich in den entsprechenden Eingang des RPA 100 (4, 8 oder 16) Ohm mit dem Verstärker übereinstimmend angeschlossen werden. Das mag soweit stimmen.

Der zweite maßgebliche Grund war, dass nach Herstellerangabe bei 100% Ausgangslautstärke am RPA 100 auch 100% vom Verstärker ankommen, also keine -3db Absenkung wie bei vielen anderen Herstellern stattfindet. Das ist leider nicht der Fall. Um wieviel genau die Lautstärke reduziert wird weiß ich nicht, aber es ist erheblich. Ebenfalls wird der Sound deutlich beeinträchtigt und hat nichts mehr mit meinem gewünschten Sound zu tun. Da ich ein Röhrenverstärker im niedrigeren Wattbereich spiele, war dieses Feature bestechend.
Die anderen wirklich vielfältigen Features (DI-out, Line-out, Aux-in und Kopfhörer etc.) habe ich nicht mehr getestet. Hier nur kurz der Hinweis: Dafür wird zusätzlich ein 9V-Netzteil benötigt, ist nicht im Lieferumfang.
Ich werde hier leider die Money-Back-Funktion nutzen und das Gerät zurückschicken.

I've had the Harley Benton PA100 for a few years now. The sound is really okay for home use, but nothing about the design is great.

When I saw this Rockboard attenuator, I hoped it could replace the Harley Benton. It looks better and sturdier and everything about the design looks better. And I was sure it would sound at least as good as the Harley Benton.

Sad to say it doesn't. It is really muffled and lifeless, where the Harley Benton just sounds more open, articulate and lively. Simply a matter of more highs.

Rockboard claims that with the attenuator wide open, there should be no attenuation. That is not true. Just like the Harley Benton it nocks off -9dB as soon as you plug it in.

I returned it, because at the end of the day I care more about the sound than how well I can read the prints on the device, where the in and outputs sit and how decent it looks. But it would've been great if Rockboard would've gotten both right!

Haven't tested the other options it has over the Harley Benton, like the line out with cabsim, the headphone output and aux input. Great that it has those options, but I'm pretty sure that won't sound better than my Two Notes CAB-M+.

TL/DR: If you want a better looking unit, get this one, for better sound get the Harley Benton PA100.
