Great sound, Dynamics - Good recording instrument
This is a good instrument if a litle shoddily made. I like the sound and the responsiveness as it lends to a quality live/recording to. Tuning was not perfect but very vibey. All in all a good buy.
I used the melodica on an Irish tour and found the instrument to be very capable of filling the room with out too much amplification needed. A bit of verb was nice.
In Studio I played a little off the mic and found it to be a rounded sound - usful i mnay ways and perfectly suitable for soem EQ workings.
The best feature is the repsoniveness of the keys. Lending itself well to complex melodic lines - an almost eastern/arabic melody - or an Irish trad melody can be pulled off using trills on the fast moving keys.
Good fun and recommended.

Excellent Present
Bought it for my young son to get him into music. Almost regretted it as it's hard to keep him off it. Excellent Xmas present.

More useful than I thought
I planned to use this as a simple portable device for finding notes and melodies for song training, which it can do just fine. I didn't expect it to have the tonal quality for creating music.
But I was surprised how funny it is to express dynamics with your breath and still being able to use your keyboard skills. Note, however, that the name "melodica" is apt. It is great for melodies, but useless for harmonies. One tone at a time, or you will never know which tone in the chord will steal all the air.

I love this thing
This is a great little instrument, really fun to play, very easy to record. A little reverb and delay and you've got instant dub vibes. The build quality feels a little flimsy, but it comes with a molded plastic case that will withstand a lot of punishment.
