SMB-5A compared to a stock Musicman Ceramic pickup
I fitted it to a 2007 Stingray 5 which had a stock CERAMIC pickup. The main differences between the SD and the stock pickup is the tone. The stock pickup had a harder treble, more scooped mids and was generally very modern sounding. The Seymour Duncan has a more glassy treble, more characterful and useful midrange. The bottom end is more airy on the SD and fills a room rather than punch you in the face. I also found the string balance to be better on the SD, whether this was due to the placement of the pole pieces or the better midrange is debateable. Build quality wise the SD cannot be faulted, and it comes with fitting instructions including how to wire it to a 3 way switch for Parallel/Series/Singlecoil which is useful.
So to end I'll just say that this is a quality pickup which in my experience has given me some very nice oldschool Stingray tones.
