After having tried plastic tenor recorders in which the low C is very difficult to produce I opted for a wooden recorder which doesn't pose this problem. I tried the Mollenhauer Canta 2406 which is excellent. I then tried this Denner 5406 which I found to have a lovely resonant sonorous tone characteristic of the Denner series and purchased it.Despite the extra cost I made the decision thinking that in the long run I would be glad of the quality. A piece of advice: play your new recorder in slowly over a period of 6 weeks, these are delicate instruments! Thanks to the excellent Thomann service I was able to compare different models and am grateful to them for that.

For the Curious...

If you've never owned a keyless, wooden, or tenor recorder, this recorder is an excellent first instrument.
This recorder demonstrates the Mollenhauer Denner line's signature design quality - notes that sound very easily and respond very well in the upper register.
The instrument's weakness in the lower range is typical of ALL tenor recorders that don't have keys - it is not unique to the Denner line or to Mollenhauer.
All of the subjective advantages of a wooden tenor are also present for the novice to discover.
Over all, it is a great starter tenor recorder.

Quality Instrument

It's difficult to beat this Tenor for the same price. It's an all-around nice instrument and blends very well with other recorders (particularly matching Mollenhauer Denner instruments in pear wood).

Good Instrument compared to similar price ones

My copy can response really wonderful in both lowest and highest registers. Love the sweet tone all across the whole range. It's easy to blend with other pear and maple instruments either.
One thing not so good is that after I played 10 mins at the first time, the cedar block comes a little bend (near 1mm, that's unbelievable) at both sides of the windway Even if I have already stand down and weathered the instrument with a few days and oiled the inner of the instrument (avoided the block). That confused me because neither my Denner-Edition or Dream Edition ones react like this. Maybe there are some cons with their manufacture process, So I'll rate 4 stars for the Quality case.
Overall the instrument can meet my demand with a little pity, but still recommend buying due to the pure tone it produce. By the way, The Thomman service is superb.Hope to fetch more great instruments at Thomman.
