Great Budget Wireless System
David9268 03.10.2014
This is my first experience of a wireless guitar system since trying a cheap(ish) system in the late 1980s, and I'm certainly very impressed. I was going to opt for the G50 Relay for it's metal casing, but the G30 as B stock was too much of a bargain to pass up! Straight out of the box the G30 is simplicity itself to setup, with everything you need - mains adaptator, batteries and patch cable included in the box. Thomann even threw in a free travel plug which was a nice touch. Plug the receiver into your amp, the transmitter into your guitar, ensure that both are set to the same channel and that's it, you're ready to play wirelessly. There's not much in the way of controls, just an on/off switch on the transmitter, channel select switches on each unit and a useful cable tone simulation control on the receiver. Coloured lights indicate the remaining battery life of the transmitter and the strength of signal. The sound quality is excellent, with no discernable difference to a cable, and no latency. Range seems more than adequate for the sort of small pub/club gigs I play. Build quality is not particularly sturdy, especially the transmitter unit which feels a bit plasticky, and its battery compartment flap is not overly durable, but nevertheless it seems to work well. The supplied patch cable is adequate but not great, so I replaced it with one of my own high quality ones. The transmitter battery life should be plenty to see you through even the longest of gigs, but keep plenty of spares if you practice a lot. The supplied ones only lasted me two days! Overall a very simple and practical introduction to the world of wireless guitar.
