Decent but not amazing - good for the price
So, this is going to be one of those reviews that´s going to say ´for the price´ a lot.
I was very excited to receive this after reading reviews and more or less it has delivered. It looks gorgeous and everything works straight out the box. In fact the action and set up was great and far better than the Harley Benton bass I got and have been wrestling with for a month. The pick guard and the matte black finish with the black fretboard - killer.
The sound is fine, but can take some work to get a real ´solid´sound out of it. Despite the look of the guitar its not really ideal for metal and heavy gain options and will need to be paired with some good amp or drive pedals to really get some good tones. However this is about the humbucker, which would be easy to replace and probably change the whole guitar. With the selector switch set to the neck position you can easily get chunky funk tones like Frusciante which was a really nice surprise. You can also reach the volume knob easily to do swells, though the tone knobs don´t do too much - as expected for this price.
One thing to consider is the frets are on the small side, especially up the neck which isn´t really for me. I wish they were bigger. Perhaps it´ll sound better when I change the factory strings, but for now they are easy to bend and easy to play, apart from that it stays in tune better than you´d expect, which is needed and often missing on starter guitars but it doesn´t stay perfectly and the whammy bar is perfectly useable - again a nice surprise at this price point.
So, all in all a great beginners guitar, in fact you´d have dreamt of a guitar this good when you started. Any kid would love this to bits.
A mixed bag, but generally good, manage your expectations and this is a good guitar - especially for the price.
