Pros: it's pretty lightweight, low cost, and easy to learn. It follows the Elektron logic, so if you are into Elektron machines you will understand it quickly. It has a 1 Gb of storage for your samples, so you'll have plenty of space to put your drum machines in there.
Cons: It's a sampler that cannot sample ! You need to use your computer to load samples through the USB port. You won't find any inputs or mics or FM radio to obtain samples. The number of effects is pretty limited (delay, reverb, and you can manipulate a bit the distortion of samples), and the sample memory is barely 64 Mb so you won't be able to multitrack a full project as you can do in an MPC.
At this price point, you should probably spend a little more and get a Korg Electribe 2 Sampler (yeah, the red one). Another alternative if you are into trackers is the Polyend Tracker. It will include an FM radio and sampling inputs. Of course, if money isn't an issue, and you are the kind of posh individual who has caviar for breakfast, get a Teenage Engineering OP-1. It will drain your wallet but you'll have a tiny little sampler with FM radio, inputs and included mic plus a bunch of synthesizer models and effects to play with.
However... And here's the thing, all the extra features and characteristics don't define how useful an instrument is for your workflow. A sampler is a sampler, which means that it will sound as good as the samples you load in it, and the resulting music will be as good as your creativity.
I have better samplers and more complicated machines (maschines) lying around, but the Model: Samples is so lightweight and instant that you can plug it and play with it in your bedroom without thinking too much about it.
Regarding its looks, somebody online called this groovebox "a Swedish cash register", and yes, it looks a bit like that. But on the other hand, that means that all the parameters are easily accesible. The screen is tiny, so if you are of some age, you'll have trouble reading its contents. On the other hand, if you are a hamster, you'll enjoy a fantastic monochrome widescreen monitor.
