With Jims 45 TC does a lot for people who prefer pedals over multi fx units but still needs a couple of channels, a booster and has taken the step into going direct. The pedal comes with trademark approvals from Marshall and Celestion and mimics a 1965 JTM 45. Whether it is done authenticly remains subjective as a comparison would depend on specific amp, speaker, miking, signal chain etc. But to my ears it sounds very good. I go direct both for PA and personal monitoring.
TC managed to cram a lot of functionality into this pedal, taking anvantage of the fact that it is digital. The knobs remember the setting of two respective channels and TC recognized that most people use a booster before or after the overdriven stage. So both are possible. Either as a sligthly overdriven mid boost before the "amp" or a clean boost after the "amp". Flexible pedal layout where you can either operate as always-on switching between low and high gain channel or a traditional pedal situation choosing between on or off modes. Theres is a global presence boost at the back of the pedal. If you compare to TC's DC30 counterpart pedal, this knob was used to control boost volume on the DC30, so the boost volume on Jims 45 seems to be static (value ??). Seems they ran out of buttons which is a shame. The pedal is digital and allows for firmware upgrades. And as of july 2023 it needs an upgrade. The response when pressing the channel-switch is simply too slow for seamless live performance. Hope this will be fixed in an otherwise fine product that features bang-for-the-buck. And while at it: Hope they find a clever way to make a button control that boost level.
