Surprisingly good
Danisch 08.04.2021
I bought this set to use it as a silent kit similar to this one, but for a cheaper price. Millenium Hybrid Practice Drum Set BL

The shells and the hardware are of surprisingly good quality with the following exceptions:
The seat foam is very weak, when you sit on it, its 5cm thickness will collapse into a few mm. I expected it to last for a few days only, however after half a year, there is still no damage yet, but the fact that the foam has zero resistance and sitting on it feels like sitting on a hard wood bench is still weird.
Some of the kickdurm lugs are deformed as well as one of the rims were quite oval. With some stretching and tweaking it is useable however. The rest is absolutely OK, after half a year they are good as new.
You cannot see this in the pics, the kit is not simply black, but the finish has sparkles, looks great in sunlight, nice surprise.

The hihat sounds nice, the crash/ride is as musical as a tin sheet would be.

The drum heads are absolutely rubbish, the material reminds me of yogurt cups. Since I use the kit with mesh head, I have no idea how it would sound with proper drumheads, so I did not want to evaluate that aspect, but I cannot send it without that. I use it with duct tape to get some sound like in this video ( kick is absolutely OK, the snare is not too nice but useable, probably replacing the cheap resonant head would make it better. I guess I would give it a 4*.

All in all, despite its minor flaws the kit is real value for money. I wish we had something like this available in the 90s, when I started to play music in my teens with very low budget.
My suggestion would that instead of the more expensive MX420, Thomann should offer a practice kit based on this set.

just awful out of the box, but an exceptional mod platform

ok, so a few months ago I recommended this kit to a friend who was buying her first kit. I had been playing drums for 6 years at the time and had enough knowledge on the topic to know that the shells don't effect your sound that much if you're dampening them with gels and rings anyway. she got a set of lovely zultan cymbals, some Gibraltar snare wires and some gels and rings and ended up with quite a nice little setup after throwing a couple of pillows into the bass drum. I finally scraped together enough money myself a few weeks ago to buy a nicer kit (I was playing an ancient pearl Maxwin kit that was literally falling apart at the time). I went for this kit after my friends success with it and bought some paiste pst3 cymbals, a ride stand (the kit doesn't provide a ride, let alone a stand), some remo ambassador heads (I didn't get reso heads for the toms), some Gibraltar snare wires and some gels and rings. it sounds and plays well. if you are getting this kit, go ahead, it's exceptionally good value, but note the following:
1. you NEED to replace the cymbals. the ones that this kit comes with are about as musical as sheets of tin, probably because they're made out of something not far off. get some cheap brand name cymbals or buy some nicer ones second hand, just don't play these.
2. get a ride stand. millennium do some decent ones for cheap
3. get damping gels and rings. put a pillow inside your bass drum and tune your drums.
4. optionally, you can make a small investment into some brand name drumheads (you can't really go wrong with anything made by evans or remo) and some snare wires to bring your sound and playing experience up a notch. my friend who got this kit broke the stock heads within 4 months of owning it.

overall it's a cheap kit that when modded out sounds really great.

The instrument was quite fine for the price it costs,
It’s a bit loud though. But it’s a good fit for a starter

Fantastic for the price

I would advise any beginner to start with this kit. Absolute value for money. If you take time to tune it properly then you will realise how good a drum kit it is.

Good value for money

With a little bit of tweaking, the right drumheads or paper tape on the correct places, it sounds amazing. Except the hi hat. It sounds like two iron buckets stuck together. Ive tried everything to fix their sound but i think ill just buy a better pair. The crash is not that bad, but ive heard better as well. The drum throne is a joke but that's okay, this set is supposed to be a cheap set for beginners, if you do have the budget i suggest you opt for a better drum throne, and give the one from the set to a kid or something.
