They're good, but...
I can't really put my finger on cobalt stings (excuse the pun). I wanted to like them and thought "hey, it would be cool to jump on to a new tonal bandwagon before they're common as mud". Unfortunately they just never really did it for me and I have found myself returning to nickel wound strings to put the smile back on my face.
It's not that the strings sound bad (far from it), they just seem to lose a bit of the twang of steel or nickel strings, especially as they age. The 3rd string in particular (the .022) is the giveaway as it sounds a touch dull/dead in comparison to your typical nickel wound version. Good for my back pocket too, as these strings cost a pretty penny given they are not subjected to any form of additional processing like half-rounds or flat-wounds.
