I really like D'Addarios
Just that...
I find in them anything I need, tone and definition-wise, and I just couldn't be happier with their quality!!!
I like to play around with different tunings, and thet offer a wide range of gauges. Also, the fact that a huge range of singles of any gauge are available to customize sets, is brilliant!!!
From time to time I try other brands, and many are OK, but is just I have found my feel and tone with D'Addario, and I'm always going back to using them.
It's a matter of taste, as always when sound is involved.
For me they're PERFECT, I love them!!!

Excellent for punchy low end
I love this size string for my low end, I'm currently using it for my 6th string on a 7 string tuned to G-C-G-C-G-c-e and it really has a kick too it and doesn't get overpowered by the low G below it. I've used .054 a lot for various alternate tunings and have always found it sits well around a low Db or C without losing any clarity and still being aggressive. Of course it sounds great with a high gain tone, with tonnes of bite to it but it's also nice and warm for clean tones or smoother overdriven tones as well.

World's most popular string brand... great tone but could be longer-lasting?
I've always used these strings. Some say that they get oxidized easily and talk about other brands but it all depends on environmental factors, sweat and whether one wipes the strings after each use, amount of time they are played, etc.
I always go back to D'Addario because of their vast assortment of gauges and especially their 'balanced tension' sets. Other brands don't always provide strings of certain gauges and definitely not balanced tension sets.
